Coming Home to the Body

I’m back from vacation, and I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to care for my body.

Late summer feels like a beautiful time to slow down, take stock, and reconnect with ourselves. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, late summer is associated with the Earth element—grounding, nourishment, and feeling at home.

This is a theme I can really resonate with.

I am here in this body. I am home. I am here in this body, and I care.

Yoga is for everybody and every body. I believe that finding a practice that feels good in your body is far more important than trying to make your body fit a particular idea of what yoga should look like.

When you come to practice with me, I want you to feel that you are in a safe and welcoming space where you can listen to your body, make choices, modify, rest, or simply breathe. There is no expectation that you need to perform or keep up. Your practice belongs to you.

I’m grateful for the feedback you’ve shared with me since moving Yoga Bay to Tone Yoga Studio. It helps me continue to create classes where everyone—whether you are new to yoga or have practiced for years—can feel welcome and supported.

As Judith Hanson Lasater says:

“Yoga is not about touching your toes. It is what you learn on the way down.”

As we move through these last weeks of summer and toward September, I invite you to come back to yourself.

Come as you are.

Listen to your body.

Find what feels good.

And practice caring for the body that carries you through this life.
